Can a business buy bicycles?
Yes ! And it is sometimes possible to combine several advantages and aids, even subsidies in certain cities.
- The purchase cost of the bicycle is considered as an expense and therefore comes off the company's profit and therefore corporate tax. The cost of the bike must be more than 500 € and must be amortized over several years (usually 3 to 5 years).
- Thanks to recent government measures in favor of smoother, responsible and sustainable mobility, companies also have the possibility of purchasing or long-term rental of fleets of bicycles with or without electric assistance, to insure them and to maintain them. , with an advantageous tax system offering a 25% reduction in corporate tax (until 2024). They can thus make company bikes available free of charge to their employees for their home-work or business trips.
- On the other hand, business leaders and artisans can opt for purchase or long-term rental if they can justify business trips by bicycle.
The Sustainable Mobility Package
The Sustainable Mobility Package, enshrined in the Mobility Orientation Law, represents optional coverage by the employer of the home-to-work transport costs of employees made in “soft mobility” (or active modes: cycling, etc.) or “alternative” (carpooling, free-floating, etc.).
It responds to a challenge of social justice and equity vis-à-vis public transport for which reimbursement at 50% is compulsory for employers. It replaces the old IKV (bicycle kilometer allowance).
The company can pay compensation (exempt from income tax and contributions) up to € 500 per year and per employee in the private sector.
This amount is € 200 for public sector employees.
The exempt indemnity can either be paid directly on the payslip, or in the form of a mobility voucher, which can be used to pay for the purchase / LLD of a bicycle or an eBike, and its maintenance.
